RICHARD MCCURDY CLUB SPORTS GOLF SCHOLARSHIP
Dick began his love of golf in college where he played on local golf courses. Throughout his education career (teacher, principal, and coach) in Frederick, Maryland, he enjoyed golfing in local and “long distance” golf outings. He coached High School football, girl’s basketball, and golf. He always felt that sports not only help to develop the physical body but enriched the life skills of the student. After retirement, he worked at a golf club setting up daily play, outings and tournaments. Upon moving the Sun City Grand, he joined the Men’s club and competed in many local tournaments. He taught his wife, Vivian, to play and soon after he was organizing Sunday couples play and golf trips for up to 24 players. He arranged trips from Mesquite, Nevada to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
He also loved basketball and was an avid University of Maryland fan. He had volunteered as an usher during the Lefty Drisell era. Grand Canyon basketball provided an excellent alternative. You would often find the couple in the stands cheering on the Lopes.
Dick is missed very much but he would be thrilled to know that he is helping a fellow golfer fulfill his dreams. (Dick McCurdy, August 5, 1943 – January 4, 2021)
